We are pleased to share that the European Commission has awarded Spare Cores the EIC Seal of Excellence.

Our proposal, "Enabling Cost- and Energy-Efficient AI Through Workflow-Native Optimization" (proposal ID 101310126), was submitted under the EIC Pre-Accelerator call and evaluated by an international panel of independent experts as follows:

recognised as a high-quality project proposal in a highly competitive evaluation process.

To be transparent: the seal does not come with funding. The Commission's own wording states that the proposal "could not receive funding due to budgetary constraints and is therefore recommended by the European Commission for funding by other sources." So we did not win a grant here -- but an independent expert panel reviewed our work and signed off on its quality and relevance, which we consider a meaningful external validation.

You can read and download the certificate directly from our site.

This is not our first brush with EU funding programs. In 2024, we were selected for the NGI Search grant out of 94 applicants, which gave us the runway to build the core of the Spare Cores ecosystem. The EIC evaluation process was a different program and a different scale, but the outcome reinforces that what we are building is recognized as relevant beyond our own community.

We will continue working on making cloud infrastructure more transparent and cost-efficient, with or without EU grants. If you are a potential partner, investor, or funder interested in supporting this work, we'd be happy to talk: please reach out via the contact form or schedule a call with us.
