We are excited to share that Spare Cores closed a pre-seed investment round at the end of 2025, led by BNL Start Partners and First Principle Innovation (FPI).

This follows the NGI Search grant we received in 2024, which gave us the runway to build the core of the Spare Cores ecosystem. This pre-seed round gives us the resources to grow the team and move faster on the product side.

What We Are Working On #

First of all, we are using the funds to hire developers. After the NGI Search grant period ended, the project ran as a single-person effort for almost a year, which was fine for keeping things alive but not for moving fast. I am extremely happy to say that we have already reached 4 FTE.

We remain committed to our open-source work. The transparency we bring to the cloud server landscape -- hardware specs, benchmark data, pricing -- stays open and freely accessible. That is not changing.

On top of that data, we are building a SaaS product aimed at data scientists, ML engineers, and AI practitioners who run batch jobs with varying resource requirements. The idea is simple: track what your job actually uses, and find the cloud server that fits it well without over-provisioning. We have been laying the groundwork for this with the resource-tracker open-source library and our Metaflow integration, described in the Optimizing Resource Usage of Batch Jobs article.

Exciting times ahead! 🚀
