      CPU and System Topology

      Server Description

A high-density AMD EPYC compute instance delivering top-tier multi-core performance and high memory bandwidth for parallelized, CPU-bound workloads.

      Compute OptimizedGeneral Purpose

Google Cloud Platform n2d-highcpu-128 is an x86_64 compute-optimized server featuring 128 dedicated vCPUs and 128 GB of RAM, powered by a 64-core AMD EPYC 7B13 processor. This instance does not include local storage or GPU accelerators. It delivers top-tier multi-core CPU performance, ranking in the top 10% for stress-ng multi-core, PassMark CPU, and PassMark physics benchmarks. Memory bandwidth for small cached blocks is also in the top 10%, while large block read and write speeds are in the top 25%. The primary tradeoff is its low memory-to-vCPU ratio of 1.0 GB per core, which limits performance in memory-heavy tasks, as evidenced by weak text generation speeds on large 70B LLM models. However, its high core density provides qualitative cost efficiency for highly parallelized, compute-bound workloads. It is best suited for software compilation, ray tracing, static web serving, and cryptographic processing.

      Workload Profiles

      3.54Score
Precomputed compound score for Cache Intensive workloads. A weighted average (geometric mean) of benchmark scores compared to their medians: score = ∏ (x_i / m_i)^(w_i / Σw). The score of 1.0 represents a synthetic baseline server with the median performance of each component benchmark; 0.5 means roughly half the performance; and 2.0 means twice the performance of that reference profile. Component weights: 50% Redis RPS (pipeline=1, SET), 20% Redis RPS (pipeline=16, SET), 10% PassMark Memory Mark (composite), 10% Memory bandwidth (read, 16 MB ~ L3), 10% PassMark single-thread CPU. Rationale for component selection: In-memory key-value store workload, mixing direct Redis performance metrics with memory speed and latency benchmarks, and single-core CPU performance profiles.
