    Server Description

A dense storage instance delivering massive local HDD capacity and balanced multi-core performance for sequential data processing and large-scale analytical workloads.

    Storage & DatabaseGeneral Purpose

Amazon Web Services d2.8xlarge is a dense storage instance designed for high-capacity sequential storage workloads. Powered by an Intel Xeon E5-2676 v3 processor with 36 vCPUs (18 physical cores) running at 2.4 GHz, it includes 244.0 GB of memory and a massive 49152 GB of local HDD storage. Operating on the Xen hypervisor, the instance delivers a baseline network bandwidth of 10 Gbps. Benchmark data shows that while single-core performance is poor, multi-core capabilities, memory bandwidth, and database operations perform at average levels. The instance offers high qualitative cost efficiency for storage-dense configurations, trading off high-speed random I/O for massive sequential storage capacity. It is highly suited for MapReduce, Hadoop, log processing, and large-scale data warehousing.

    1.07Score
Precomputed compound score for Cache Intensive workloads. A weighted average (geometric mean) of benchmark scores compared to their medians: score = ∏ (x_i / m_i)^(w_i / Σw). The score of 1.0 represents a synthetic baseline server with the median performance of each component benchmark; 0.5 means roughly half the performance; and 2.0 means twice the performance of that reference profile. Component weights: 50% Redis RPS (pipeline=1, SET), 20% Redis RPS (pipeline=16, SET), 10% PassMark Memory Mark (composite), 10% Memory bandwidth (read, 16 MB ~ L3), 10% PassMark single-thread CPU. Rationale for component selection: In-memory key-value store workload, mixing direct Redis performance metrics with memory speed and latency benchmarks, and single-core CPU performance profiles.
