Server Description
A memory-optimized instance featuring high-capacity local NVMe storage and balanced multi-core performance for database and caching workloads.
Amazon Web Services r5d.8xlarge is a memory-optimized instance featuring 32 vCPUs, 256.0 GB of DDR4 memory, and 1200 GB of local NVMe SSD storage. Powered by an Intel Xeon 8259CL processor running at 3.1 GHz on the Nitro hypervisor, this instance is designed for memory-intensive workloads. Benchmark results reveal a tradeoff: single-core CPU performance is weak, placing in the bottom 25%, while multi-core performance and memory bandwidth achieve average, middle-50% marks. The instance performs reliably on database operations, Redis SET operations, and medium-sized language model inference. With its high memory-to-vCPU ratio and fast local storage, the r5d.8xlarge is qualitatively cost-efficient for memory-heavy applications, caching layers, and database workloads that benefit from local NVMe scratch space, though it is not optimal for single-threaded compute or large-scale LLM inference.
